TEACHER TRAINING
Kinetic Pilates is the only certified training centre currently offering Romana's Pilates International Instructor Training in the UK,
Romana’s Pilates International is arguably the most respected and well-known fully comprehensive Classical Pilates Teacher Training Programme in the world.
The programme was designed by Romana Kryzanowska, nearly 30 years ago, and continues today with the same high expectations and rigorous standards
Romana’s daughter, Grand Master Sari Mejia-Santo who worked with Joseph Pilates and his wife Clara is a frequent and honoured visitor to our studio. We host many of Romana’s chosen successors, and have a strong relationship with our colleagues around the world, who like us work to uphold and honour the legacy that Joseph Pilates created.
The benefits of RPI at Kinetic Pilates studio
Reputation
Rebecca Convey Level III teacher trainer has been running the RPI training programme in London since 2015. In that time KP has trained highly skilled teachers and is widely regarded as the standard bearer for Classical Pilates in the UK.
Accountability
Teacher Trainers are accountable too! They are chosen and directly mentored by Level I instructors who hold them to the highest standards of quality and commitment to the method. These trainers pass that knowledge and standard on to all their students.
Objectivity
Exams are invigilated at the highest level, holding not only you but the studio's Teacher Trainers to account and ensuring that apprentices are working to the highest standard.
Employability
KP has a very strong reputation for producing excellent, well trained passionate teachers. RPI certified teachers are in very high demand all over the world and our graduates are working as much as they can handle. In fact, we can’t keep up with the demand for our teachers both in the UK and internationally. Finishing your programme with KP will ensure many doors will be opened for you and you will not struggle to find work.
Network
The UK boasts a network of Romana’s teachers and studios. KP London is the hub, but there are Romana’s studios in Devon, Durham, Norfolk, Yorkshire, Wales and Scotland. This network is part of the greater global network of teachers all working closely together offering a wealth of knowledge and the ability to pass down the legacy established by Joseph Pilates and developed by Romana Kryzanowska through training centres and affiliated studios. We have training centres and affiliated studios across the United States, Europe, Australia, and Asia.
UNPARALLELED LINEAGE OF EXCELLENCE
What makes Romana's Pilates so special is easily answered in one word: Lineage.
When Joseph Pilates passed away he left his studio and work to Romana Kryzanowska: she was his chosen protégée. Romana had been trained by, and worked closely with, Joe Pilates and Clara Pilates for decades and was the obvious choice to continue his work. Of all the Pilates elders (those who trained with Joseph Pilates directly), Romana worked with him the longest and had the deepest understanding of his work.
During Joseph Pilates' life his work was really only taught at his New York studio, in Romana's lifetime she oversaw the training of countless teachers who went on to open studios worldwide. It is Romana who is responsible for Pilates becoming a household name and a fitness craze that has become one of the most popular forms of exercise available.
Romana's Pilates has dozens of high level master teachers who trained directly with Romana Kryzanowska (Joseph Pilates' chosen protegée). It is because of this unparalleled concentration of excellent Teacher Trainers that Romana´s Pilates instructors are considered some of the best in the industry.
Everyone studying Pilates today, in whatever method, can trace their roots back to Romana in one way or another. Either their teacher, or their teacher's teacher or their teacher's teacher's teacher was trained with or by Romana. The closer this connection is, the closer the work is to the way it was intended to be by Joseph Pilates himself.
THE PROGRAMME
Based in Kinetic Pilates North, in north London, the Romana's Pilates Instructor Training starts every September and is a comprehensive training through all levels and all Classical Pilates equipment.
The course has 3 levels:
Basic, Intermediate and Advanced Level.
Trainees are required to do a minimum of 15hrs a week of hours at the studio. These hours should be split between observation; weekly sessions with a Teacher Trainer, trainee mat class, practice teaching and your own independent practice. Trainees make their own schedules and can work their hours around their work or home commitments. We do require attendance at on Friday afternoons.
Every Friday the Teacher Trainers run a 2 hr workshop with the trainees and we offer several opportunities for training throughout the week.
We have 3 certified RPI Teacher Trainers on site at Kinetic, a team of very dedicated certified teachers, and trainees of all levels, all of who are always on hand to answer questions and give guidance.
Our course is very hands on, collaborative, and offers a very high level of contact time with course leaders.
The certification process consists of :
- 3 practical tests (Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced)
-
4 written tests (1 Intermediate and 3 Advanced)
-
Certification can take 12-18 months and requires 700-1000 hours. The time it takes depends on the time you can give.
There are currently only 8 people worldwide who can oversee the final test - this keeps the RPI Programme with a strong and consistently high standard.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Entry into the training programme is by invitation from Rebecca Convey after the completion of an assessment evaluated by a Romana's Pilates Teacher Trainer.
At Kinetic Pilates we strongly believe that if you can’t do it, you can’t teach it. The first part of your teaching journey is to work on your own Pilates practice and become as advanced as possible before learning to teach.
We do not expect perfection, but we strive for consistent progress and deep understanding in your own body. We have very strict criteria for entry, which requires you to be able to show a detailed and strong Intermediate workout in order to qualify for entry onto the programme.
No matter what level you currently are practicing, whether you are already a teacher or starting from scratch. No matter what your expectations are we are dedicated to developing a realistic timeline for you to be ready to start the programme. We do not expect you to walk through the door fully advanced, we expect you to come with a desire to work hard and be dedicated to reaching high standards. If you come with a strong work ethic, we will get you ready!
If you are interested, please come in and see us, book a session and we can discuss the programme with you.
BRIDGING PROGRAMME
To enter the programme, bridging candidates must still pass the same entry requirements as other candidates and receive an invitation.
Unlike regular trainees, bridging trainees are not required to complete the set hours and will test when considered ready by the teacher trainer Rebecca Convey.
All seminars must be attended and tests passed in order to receive the Level V Romana's Pilates Instructor certification.
